After becoming tired of working in the staffing industry making a lot of money for someone else, Jim Holwerda invested in a Remedy Intelligent Staffing franchise in 2008. He now has 12 locations across Wisconsin.

Why did you buy a franchise?
I’d been working in the staffing industry and was tired of making a lot of money for someone else.  Buying a franchise gave me the head-start of not having to develop a system and processes and allowed me to concentrate on sales and service.

Why did you choose your franchise?
The Remedy opportunity provided more flexibility to build a large business. I was able to acquire a large territory and build a very lucrative multi-site operation in just eight years.

What is the best part of your job?
My team and I are proud to provide work for so many great people. There’s something rewarding about providing pay checks to help people build better lives.

Who had influenced your approach to business?
Definitely my parents. They are independent business owners who taught me important values like work ethic, forward planning and always to be looking around corners.

What advice would you have for prospective franchise buyers?
Don’t be in a rush to make a decision. Talk to existing franchisees to really understand the business. Be very clear about what you’ll spend your time doing, particularly in the early years. We are genuinely a 24/7 business with associates working at all hours and all days bringing certain pressures. If you’re not prepared to sacrifice to achieve long-term rewards, then this business is probably not right for you.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’m ambitious. I’d like to own the whole State of Wisconsin and be on track to be a $100M business. My goal is to be regarded as the Starbucks of staffing in my markets.
