We are thrilled to share our Q&A with this remarkable franchisee with you. We hope it will help you in your franchise research.
What made you decide to look into purchasing a franchise?
I was looking to exit the corporate world and work locally in my community. I wanted to be more in control of my schedule and spend more time with family.
When researching franchises, what criteria mattered to you most? How did your franchise meet that criteria?
The right franchisor was more important to me than the business opportunity. I knew I could build a business with the right support. Home Franchise Concepts and specifically the Lightspeed Corporate Team, made the decision an easy one!
Which of your prior skills and experiences do you use in operating your business today?
My account management and sales experience from my corporate days have proven to be very valuable. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and helping them solve problems. Since Lightspeed Restoration is a Home Services franchise, I had experienced many of the issues we solve in our business in my own personal home. I felt like I could offer a better level of service to our customers than I had received based on that experience.
During your research, did you use FBR’s website to compare franchise opportunities? What other resources did you use?
Yes. I actually found Lightspeed Restoration after reading a profile about them on FBR.
When doing your research, which questions did you ask the franchisees?
I asked them about the ramp-up time and the reality of scaling. I also wanted to know how steep the learning curve was and what kind of support I could expect from the corporate team.
Which questions did you ask the franchisor?
In general, I reviewed the business opportunity, focusing on things like market size. I also wanted to know from their perspective what the support was going to be like. Additionally, I questioned them about the technology stack.
What were your first 90 days like as a franchisee?
They were somewhat hectic. We were able to get started working jobs from day 1, which was very valuable. Lightspeed Corporate’s support was very helpful in the beginning.
At what point did you feel like you “got the hang of it” and settled in as a business owner?
I have been doing this for 15 months. And still learning! Not sure I have the “hang of it” yet.
How does the franchisor support and encourage your success?
I cannot say enough good things about the support, both from a business standpoint and industry standpoint, that I have received from the Lightspeed Team. They are constantly providing me support in building my business and offering us extensive training opportunities.
What are you most proud of and why?
The services we provide to our community. We are helping businesses and homeowners solve difficult problems. What we do is provide restoration services, but more importantly, we help customers navigate difficult circumstances.
What advice would you give to potential franchise owners?
Get to know the franchisor. Educate yourself on the challenges of the marketplace and the competition. Sales skills are crucial!
