Franchise Growth Fueled by Dedicated Support

Ariel Chavez owner of cruise planners

Since opening his Cruise Planners franchise in Mobile, Alabama, in 2014, Ariel Chavez has steadily grown his travel business into a thriving, million-dollar venture. With no prior experience in travel or sales, Ariel credits Cruise Planners’ comprehensive training, cutting-edge technology, and dedicated support for giving him the confidence to succeed. Recognized as a 2025 Rock Star in the “Giving Back” category, he has built his success on personalized client care, a commitment to continual learning, and strong community involvement. Ariel and his husband actively support local nonprofits, reflecting his belief that successful entrepreneurship should always include giving back and uplifting others.

During your research, what made your franchise brand stand out?

Cruise Planners’ innovative tools, advanced technology, and dedicated support impressed me. I also personally liked the distinctive brand concept, which set them apart in the industry.

How did your franchisor help you prepare for and launch your business?

With no prior experience in sales or booking travel, the initial in-person training provided a strong foundation. This training was reinforced by consistent weekly follow-ups. The dedicated support from my Business Development Coach was instrumental in helping me navigate my new career. It gave me confidence knowing that I had a knowledgeable team backing me every step of the way.

What advice would you give to potential franchisees considering your brand?

My advice to potential franchisees would be to do thorough research and talk to other franchise owners as well as independent agents. Once you make the decision, fully commit to the process and take advantage of all the dedicated support and resources Cruise Planners provides. Success doesn’t come overnight. It took me a couple of years, but if you’re willing to learn, stay consistent, and actively engage with the tools and community available to you, the opportunities are truly rewarding. Lean into the training. Connect with other franchisees. And, don’t be afraid to ask for help—you’re never alone in this business.

Name three things that empower your success.

Continuing education is essential—staying informed keeps you ahead in this ever-evolving industry. Set realistic goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Consistency is equally important. While it’s not always easy, delivering reliable, high-quality service builds client trust and drives repeat business and referrals.

Lastly, be a great listener and an even better matchmaker. Understanding your clients’ needs and crafting the right travel experience for them is the key to long-term satisfaction and success.

What are the causes closest to your heart and why?

About five years ago, my husband and I became foster parents. This journey has been both eye-opening and deeply rewarding, especially since neither of us was raised in the U.S. The experience has often felt like an emotional roller coaster, as we’ve welcomed children into our home for stays ranging from a few nights to several years. Each child has left a lasting impact on our lives. We’re now hopeful and excited as we are in the process of adopting our first son—fingers crossed. Our family is actively involved with Fostering Together Gulf Coast, a remarkable local nonprofit dedicated to supporting children in foster care and the families who care for them.

My husband and I also proudly support Prism United, an exceptional organization serving LGBTQ+ youth and their loved ones in Southwest Alabama. Both organizations do vital work in our community, and we’re honored to be part of their missions.

How does business ownership empower you to give back or “pay it forward”?

Being a business owner has given me the opportunity to connect with incredible and inspiring individuals in our community. I feel more engaged and rooted than I ever did as an employee. Entrepreneurship has also opened doors for my family and me to invest our time and resources into causes that are deeply meaningful to us.

What is your proudest achievement?

I came to the United States in 2002 to complete my degree in engineering, arriving with just a backpack, a small suitcase, and a heart full of dreams. I could have never imagined that, 23 years later, I would own and operate a million-dollar travel business, with a small but mighty team helping our clients create some of their most cherished memories. Being part of the travel industry and a Cruise Planners franchisee has given my family and me experiences we could have never imagined.

Today, I’m grateful for a loving family, incredible friends near and far, and a growing business—all of which give me a profound sense of accomplishment.
