Angela and Elizabeth Emilani are being recognized as Rock Star franchisees in the Women category for their outstanding leadership and dedication to The Learning Experience. Their journey first began in 2016 when Angela was working as a Prepper teacher at the Roseland, NJ center. The brand’s mission, engaging curriculum, and positive culture inspired her deeply. As a result, Angela made the leap into ownership and never looked back. Today, she and her sister own six locations in Roseland, Livingston, Cedar Grove, South Orange, Bloomfield, and Morristown. She credits her success to being present, creating a family-like culture, and treating everyone with respect. Angela answered our questions below.

During your research, what made your franchise brand stand out?

I started working at The Learning Experience in Roseland, NJ, as a Prepper teacher, and I immediately fell in love with the brand, its curriculum, and its lovable mascot, Bubbles.

How did your franchisor help you to prepare for and launch your business?

I attended a two-week training program in Florida to learn the ins and outs of owning/ managing a TLE center. I found this to be a great opportunity to connect with many knowledgeable colleagues and corporate team members. Additionally, this training experience allowed me to gain the extra confidence I needed to run my center successfully.

What advice would you give to potential franchisees considering your brand?

TLE has built a uniquely amazing culture. It is such a unique, incredible organization to be a part of. And we are proud every single day to be franchisees with The Learning Experience, as we know there is no other franchise that competes.

Name three key things that empower your success.

  1. Being present
  2. Family-like culture
  3. Treating everyone with respect

What unique challenges have you faced as a female business owner and how did you overcome them?

I’d have to say that there have been moments where I’ve felt underestimated or overlooked as a female business owner. I also sometimes felt as though I was not taken seriously. Eventually, I overcame this by staying confident, knowing my numbers, and doing my research. I also learned to always be prepared and assertive.

How does owning your franchise help you to “pay it forward” to other aspiring female entrepreneurs?

I’m always trying to encourage and motivate aspiring female entrepreneurs to GO FOR IT! I believe that nothing is out of reach with hard work and motivation, and that you will never regret taking a risk that could change your life in the best way possible. Don’t be scared to try! No risk, no reward.
