Tony Lamb founded the world’s largest mobile franchise system, Kona Ice. He is the CEO and founder of both Kona Ice and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee. When Tony launched Kona Ice in 2007, he wanted to give families a better ice cream truck experience after he and his three-year-old daughter had an awful experience as patrons of a local ice cream truck. Since then, Tony has revolutionized the food truck space, and Kona Ice has grown to be the world’s largest mobile franchise, with more than 1,900 franchisee-owned trucks in 49 states and Canada. Keeping the same vision, Tony launched the Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck franchise in 2020. There are over 150 franchised trucks on the road today, and Travelin’ Tom’s is positioned to grow exponentially.

Tim Valiant has been a Kona Ice franchisee since 2012 and became a Travelin’ Tom’s franchisee in 2021. His operation includes seven Kona Ice Trucks and three Travelin’ Tom’s Trucks. Tim said the business has grown beyond anything he could have imagined throughout the years. He credits the business’s success to two simple factors—the power of the Kona Ice and Travelin’ Tom’s brands and the amazing team of employees who drive the trucks, delivering smiles one cup at a time.

Russ O’Rear is a retired educator of 27 years. His wife, Amber, owned a hair salon for 20 years before leaving the salon to care for her grandchildren. Russ hired their daughter, Emma, and they eventually enticed Amber to work with them. The couple started their Kona Ice business in Alabama in 2019 and currently have three territories and seven pieces of equipment, including three trucks, three kiosks, and a mini. During the prototype launch of Travelin’ Tom’s in 2021, they decided to purchase a coffee truck. They own two Travelin’ Tom’s trucks today.

Emma Atkins is Russ and Amber’s daughter. She’s the General Manager of their businesses, and her husband, Bryant, is the Operations Manager. Both work in the business full-time. Bryant handles the operations, equipment, maintenance, and repair. Emma does a great job driving the business.  Emma comes from the medical field, where she was in Occupational Therapy. She joined the business in April of 2022, about nine months into starting their Tom’s business. Russ says that hiring her was the best money he’s ever spent.
