The Turners launched their Express Employment Professionals franchise in Fort Worth, Texas in August 1995. Since then, they have successfully expanded their business into multiple offices, generating over $20 million in annual sales. Julie and Lance now oversee all operations at both the downtown and north Fort Worth locations.

Beyond their business achievements, Julie and Lance have actively engaged in volunteer projects and initiatives that benefit all franchisees. They have led these efforts with care, compassion, and humor, focusing on mentoring the next generation of owners while supporting established offices. During your research, what made the Express Employment Franchise stand out?

The people made our choice of an Express franchise stand out. This was in 1995, so the internet was not a resource. We literally had a list and made phone calls to existing franchisees to ask about their experience with Express. While the opportunity was great and we felt in line with our backgrounds, the feedback from the franchisees and our experience with those at Express HQ were the deciding factors in choosing the Express brand.

How did Express Employment help you to prepare for and launch your business?

Express Employment provided thorough in-person new franchisee training, and we were also assigned a developer. This person was instrumental in helping us get started and also served as a mentor.

What advice would you give to potential Express Employment franchise owners? 

There have been many changes since we started our Express Employment Professionals franchise 30 years ago, but the fact that it is a sales-based business remains the same. You have to be willing to invest your time and put in the work to build a strong team. The Express franchisee network is strong, so learn from others and build relationships with other franchisees.
