Franchisee Excellence Awards – Right at Home

Franchisee Excellence Awards - Right At Home

Kami Sjoberg and her husband Scott have been in business at Right at Home Franchise for 15+ years, and they continue to grow and thrive. They were awarded the Franchisee Excellence Award in 2026 for their inspiring success and remarkable company culture.

Both Scott and Kami have faced many challenges as business owners. They decided to open an in-home care franchise when Kami was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Scott was Kami’s primary caregiver, and they witnessed firsthand the impact that receiving and providing quality care makes on an individuals mental and physical health.

They decided to explore franchise opportunities so they could improve the lives of seniors in their community through quality care. Over their last 15 years in business, they have done exactly that, touching the lives of thousands of clients and caregivers in Kansas and Michigan.

They have built an incredible company culture, often decorating their offices with signage and photos, providing stickers and temporary tattoos to engage caregivers, and focusing on providing consistency for staff. As early adopters of the GUIDE Program and Right at Home‘s Right Assist program, they focus on providing all the resources that care staff need to be successful.

In 2025, they earned almost 3 million in annualized revenue, serving more than 1,500 weekly hours of care in their community. As they continue to grow their business, they have increased their engagement with the Veterans Association, aiming to make care more accessible for Veteran clients.

When did you start your business?

My husband, Scott, and I started franchising with Right at Home in 2010. We own the Overland Park and Lawrence locations in KS.

During your research, what made your franchise brand stand out?

We felt the Right at Home brand truly stood out. Both the team at the corporate office and the existing franchise owners were open, easy to talk to, and spoke highly of one another. Their responses felt genuine, which gave us confidence in the culture and support behind the brand.

How did your franchisor help you to prepare for and launch your business?

We purchased an existing business, and our franchisor supported us every step of the way. From a comprehensive two‑week training program to ongoing assistance in areas such as accounting and technology, we always felt guided and prepared. We were also assigned a coach who quickly became more than a resource—he became a trusted friend.

What advice would you give potential franchisees considering your brand?

The advice we would offer to potential franchisees considering Right at Home is simple: trust the process, trust the brand, and trust the company. The system is proven, the support is consistent, and the experience has been both successful and deeply rewarding.

What specific things set YOUR franchise apart?

What sets our franchise apart is that we are always reaching for the stars. We’re constantly exploring new ways of doing things, continually striving to improve, and consistently challenging our team and caregivers to pursue excellence. Our commitment to learning and innovation drives everything we do.

What specific things contributed to your success?

A key contributor to our success is our commitment to doing what is right—right for our office team, right for our caregivers, and right for our clients. We make decisions with integrity at the center, and we sleep better knowing we consistently choose the right path.

What unique strengths and skills do YOU bring to your franchise?

We both have a deep understanding of the generation we serve—not only because of our education in marketing and advertising, but because we’ve personally lived through the challenges many of our clients face.

In our twenties, Kami experienced an acute MS attack that suddenly took away her ability to care for herself. Scott quickly stepped into the role of caregiver.

That period shaped us and gave us firsthand insight into what it feels like to lose independence and how overwhelming it can be for families. This experience continues to form the empathy, sensitivity, and support we bring to our clients and their loved ones every day.

What is something that might surprise people about franchise ownership?

One thing that truly surprised us is how powerful a brand can become when everyone rows in the same direction. The strength of a healthy system—built on strong franchisor relationships and supportive fellow franchisees—is invaluable. We genuinely feel like we are part of the brand, that we’ve had a hand in shaping it, and that we play a meaningful role in protecting what makes it special.
