Huntington Learning Center

As a former student himself, Chris Gonzales now owns and operates a Huntington Learning Center in Jacksonville Beach. He officially stepped into franchise ownership on April 1, 2000, continuing his family’s legacy and commitment to academic success. What started as his parents’ venture has evolved into a thriving, community-trusted academic success center. Recognized as a 2025 Rock Star in the Millennial category for his leadership and impact, Chris brings a fresh perspective, strong communication skills, and deep relatability to the families he serves, many of whom are fellow millennials.

During your research, what made your franchise brand stand out?

Huntington stood out and continues to stand out for several reasons. I have always felt that there is a need in our community to support students who are struggling academically, because poor grades can impact not only the student, but also the entire family. Huntington Learning Center has developed an entire model that enables franchisees to enter their local community with confidence in both the academic success solutions for students and the financial methodology to run a profitable business. Furthermore, they have researched and thoroughly built out each step of the business to where I could feel confident in our core competencies as a company that sets us apart from the competition. Additionally, it is easily the premier tutoring and test prep provider in the country.

How did your franchisor help you to prepare for and launch your business?

My journey with Huntington came full circle. I was once a student here, and now I help run our family-owned center. My parents opened the business years ago, so I grew up seeing the impact it had not only on students but also on our own family. Huntington Learning Center provided the structure, training, and support that allowed my parents to build a thriving business, and that same system positioned me to confidently take on a leadership role. This franchise model isn’t just about academic success—it’s a pathway to generational wealth. With Huntington’s support, we’ve been able to grow a lasting business that continues to support our family and community.

What advice would you give to potential franchisees considering your brand?

Within the Huntington Learning Center community of owners, we have a saying, “Follow the system.” This simply means, “Believe in and follow the structure that Huntington Learning Center has put in place, and you’ll do well.” Huntington Learning Center is also the nation’s oldest provider of supplemental education. With that comes a methodology that has been thoroughly researched, proven, and has withstood the test of time. If you follow the process and procedure that Huntington guides you with, you will see success!

Name three key things that empower your success.

First, I would highlight my active involvement and interest in the business. Second, would be my staff. Third would be the name equity that my business has built up in the community through years of proven success.

As a millennial franchisee, what unique aspects do you bring to business ownership?

For me, it’s my ability to relate and communicate with people. Because most of my clients’ families are millennials, I can relate to them better than those from a different generation.

What might surprise people about millennial business owners?

I feel most people attribute millennials as “new age” and “disruptors.” However, most people would be surprised by how many millennials are looking for something that works and is proven, that they can add their personality to.
