Why did you purchase a Puroclean franchise rather than start an independent business?

I started working for a restoration franchise about 12 years ago. Through my experiences working for four different franchises, it was clear the support given by a franchise system, specifically PuroClean, was crucial to success.

Were you focused on a specific industry or brand from the start?

Yes, as an employee of a PuroClean franchise, I learned about our franchisor’s dedication to its franchises. The level of pride in the brand itself is unmatched in our industry. Before deciding, I looked into multiple franchise systems, but all roads led back to PuroClean.

Which of your prior skills and experiences are most helpful in operating your business?

As a career firefighter for 17 years, I’ve always taken pride in helping people in their time of need. When I picked up a side job working in restoration it was clear that the empathy I was able to gain as a firefighter, carried over to restoration. I’ve taken those experiences and have grown a team of people with the same servant attitude. This team and their dedication to building up our community and serving our customers are why we are growing and have found so much success.

When researching franchises to buy, what criteria mattered to you most?

Culture mattered to me the most. Many franchises offer a cookie-cutter approach to business. PuroClean allowed me to work among some of the best professionals in the industry. The culture within the franchise system is unmatched.

What were your biggest challenges when you first started out, and how did you overcome them?

Our biggest challenge out the door was establishing an identity for my franchise. I wanted my community to know that we are PuroClean, part of a network of franchises, but we are also a local small business. We quickly put our franchise at the forefront of all community events and established ourselves as a business in the community, for the community. Our community engagement has made us a household name, and we are extremely proud of that.

I come to work every day and know that we are building a business that is not only successful but also changing the lives of the people in our organization and improving the lives of our customers. We take great pride in watching our employees grow and in the successes we can share with them.
