Raj Gupta’s decision to open a Tint World franchise was driven by his passion for cars and a desire to run a business that combined work with something he truly loved. For Raj, being a franchise owner has provided the perfect blend of a proven system, strong support, and the freedom to create a business that reflects his high standards and commitment to customer service. In this article, Raj shares his journey into the car industry, the challenges he’s faced in building his team, and how Tint World is helping him make a positive impact in his community through both business and local events.
Why did you purchase a franchise rather than start an independent business?
A franchise model provides a proven system, and Tint World offers fantastic support in such a fun environment instead of starting my own business from scratch.
Were you focused on a specific industry or brand from the start?
I wanted to get back into something I’ve always been passionate about, and Tint World fits that bill in spades. For a car guy, it’s like being a kid in a toy store! We do all the fun things to cars, from making them look stunning to making them sound fabulous. We personalize our clients’ cars and add to the ownership experience.
Which of your prior skills and experiences are most helpful in operating your business?
Understanding the back end of a business helps tremendously, as does knowing about HR and how to implement processes. In addition, knowing the tools we have to ensure success helps a lot.
When researching franchises to buy, what criteria mattered to you most?
Market size, the product, and the management team were the most important factors in our decision to proceed with Tint World.
During your research, did you speak with Tint World franchise owners?
Yes, I had many validation calls and learned a lot, from cash flow patterns, staffing, and products to HR concerns, margins, and build-out tips.
Which questions did you ask the franchisor?
I asked the franchisor about their product growth plan, staffing plan to help with growth, and expansion plans worldwide. I also asked about the types of support available and how they assist a non-car industry guy in a car-industry business.
What were your biggest challenges when you first started out, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges when starting out was staffing, establishing the culture at our shop, and managing expectations. I have high standards, and I translate those effectively into expectations for our team and then implement processes to ensure the desired outcome.
How does the franchisor support and encourage your success?
Yes, very much. My franchisor gets into our business to help understand issues; they’re always attentive and responsive.
What are you most proud of and why?
I’m most proud of our impact on the community—the industry is full of untruthful players, and customers have become accustomed to that behavior. We get a chance to reset that and also have a positive impact by giving back to the car community with our car shows and events.
What advice would you give to new or potential franchise buyers?
Be ready to jump in and have fun!
