Allen Hager founded Right at Home in 1995 after witnessing firsthand how many older adults were readmitted to the hospital after returning home—with no one to care for them. After five years in business, the former hospital administrator launched a company that would grow to more than 700 locations across six countries. In each Right at Home franchise location, caregivers ease the burden of family and friends of seniors who are often overwhelmed with providing and coordinating care for their loved ones.
Right at Home franchise owners are thoroughly trained on the company’s mission, vision, best practices, and business model. The franchise selects potential owners based on specific criteria—including their perceived capability of caring deeply. However, it’s ultimately up to each individual owner to embody and personify the culture Hager envisioned.
Embodying the Right at Home Culture of Caring
Right at Home President and CEO Magaret Haynes was a family caregiver who relied on the company for caregiving support before she joined its executive team nearly 15 years ago. Today, she helps business owners build profitable, sustainable businesses with a mission to “improve the quality of life for those we serve.”
“The Right at Home culture means everything. It is one of many ways the brand and each franchisee differentiates us in the industry,” Haynes said. “When referring to ‘those we serve,’ it includes not only the clients receiving services but also their families, caregivers, office staff, referral sources, franchisees, and the corporate and company-owned team members. Right at Home’s culture is the sum of all we do in our ongoing quest to take care to a whole new level.”
Open communication and collaboration are two lynchpins of the company’s success. Haynes lauds the Right at Home franchise network’s experience, expertise, and feedback for helping shape the brand’s decision-making and strategic development. Franchise owners say they feel heard.
Most recently, Franchise Business Review recognized Right at Home with a place on its 2024 Culture100 List. The list recognizes the top 100 franchise brands that exhibit the best franchise cultures. The company was chosen among more than 360 franchise brands, representing more than 36,000 franchise owners who answered 33 benchmark questions about their experience and satisfaction regarding critical areas of their franchise systems, such as communication, support, and alignment with the company’s mission.
“Being recognized by FBR as a Culture Award winner is one of the greatest compliments we could receive as a brand and franchise network,” Haynes said. “It’s a true testament to the importance we’ve placed on creating a supportive, healthy environment that allows all associated with the brand the opportunity to excel and touch lives in a very meaningful way.”
Meet the 2024 Allen Hager RightSpirit Award Winners
To recognize franchise owners who reflect Right at Home’s mission, the company annually bestows its Allen Hager RightSpirit Award to select franchise owners. Unlike many industry awards that focus solely on performance metrics, this award specifically recognizes franchise owners who embody Right at Home’s people- and relationship-centric, caring spirit and giving culture in all aspects of their work. The selection process involves a thorough review of each franchise owner’s performance, feedback from clients and staff, and an assessment of how well these Right at Home franchise owners embody the company’s values and culture.
The Right at Home franchise recognizes these 2024 Allen Hager RightSpirit Award winners because they embody the company’s mission and spirit and foster an environment in which caregivers, staff, and clients thrive.

Joe and Renee Concialdi
Right at Home Pasadena, West Covina & San Gabriel, CA
Joe and Renee Concialdi aspire to live the Right at Home mission daily.
“Winning the award reaffirms the culture we’ve created, and the impact and influence that has extended from it to all those we touch, in our business and across our Right at Home system overall,” Joe said. “We were humbled and honored.”
The couple created a positive culture by leading with a servant leadership mentality and adopting the following values: approachability, accountability, authenticity, collaboration, and integrity. Together, they said these values help create a team focused on serving, having fun in doing so, and, in turn, providing quality care.
“I also encourage my team and other franchisees to look at problems as opportunities and to focus on solution orientation through collaboration,” Renee said. “This creates a positive framework for meeting and exceeding the demands that arise in business ownership. We all face varying challenges at times, such as managing client expectations and maintaining a high level of service, and how we focus on solving and supporting each other through them solidifies our connection to each other and helps us remain positive during these times.”
The Concialdis said they are impressed and grateful for Right at Home’s consistent culture of continuous support and improvement. The corporate office frequently provides franchise owners with new tools, techniques, and ways to improve their offices. Right at Home looks to spur growth through innovation to keep pace with changing times.
“We have a very inclusive culture that values and embraces everyone, no matter how large or small our offices are, and no matter where we come from or who we are,” they said.

Jim Gall
Right at Home Northern Michigan, Great Lakes Bay, and Mid-Michigan
It was Right at Home‘s culture that attracted Jim Gall to the franchise system 12 years ago, and he continues to see it grow and ingrain itself with the franchisor staff and the franchisee system. He believes building a strong company culture is critical to delivering on its vision.
Winning the Allen Hager RightSpirit Award is special for Gall because it looks beyond hours worked and dollars earned and focuses on an office’s impact on the communities it serves.
“We realize that we are not just helping our clients with chores, personal care, and transportation, but we’re helping them age with dignity in their homes—which also provides “peace of mind” to their spouses and/or children,” he said.
Tina and Ben Solomon
Right at Home Seattle Eastside and Pierce County, Seattle, WA
For Tina and Ben Solomon, winning the Allen Hager RightSpirit Award isn’t just about being recognized; it also serves as a testimony to fostering an environment where caregivers and office staff thrive.
“It signifies a culture of collaboration, respect, and support, where individuals feel valued and empowered to contribute their best, ultimately leading to shared success,” Tina said.
The Solomons ensure each employee aligns with their core values. Team members must care about their people and clients first but also strive to be flexible and adaptable—which means experiencing some discomfort during times of growth. Other core values include effective communication and seeking opportunities to grow by asking questions, embracing change, and learning from mistakes.
“Right at Home‘s culture is about embracing our clients, support staff, and care staff to fulfill our system-wide mission of improving the quality of life for those we serve,” Ben said. “We invest in the infrastructure and training to listen to our partners and clients to meet their collective needs.”
Greg and Crystal Self
Right at Home NW, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
This year, Greg and Crystal Self were awarded an Allen Hager RightSpirit Award and Right at Home’s National Client Satisfaction Award. The couple knows Allen Hager and have met with him several times; they said his story and commitment to helping people set a standard for them to live by.
“Our clients and their needs come first,” Greg said. “The desire to help others comes from the heart and must be exemplified in everything that we do.”
The Right at Home leadership team helps franchise owners uphold these values because they’re willing to provide solutions and help owners learn and grow from their mistakes, Crystal said.
“From day one, you feel the energy and commitment in this culture. Right at Home will do anything and everything to help its franchisees succeed,” she said. “We are all here to do one thing, and that is help others—not only our clients but also our care professionals. Being able to provide good-paying jobs that are rewarding and recognize them for a job well done reinforces our culture!”
Eric A. Hicks
Charleston, Beckley, Princeton, and Huntington, WV
Eric Hicks first invested in his first Right at Home in April 2005 and now owns four locations in West Virginia. He said he appreciates the corporate office’s recognition of his team’s community involvement and proudly represents the Right at Home name in the communities they serve.
“I promote transparency and communication,” he said. “I believe in giving people the tools they need to be successful and then getting out of their way and letting them do their job. Also, good communication is the foundation to having good teamwork, and transparency leads to trust.”
He credits Right at Home for their collaboration and teamwork and for being good listeners who follow through.
“The Right at Home corporate office solicits franchisee feedback and does a good job on acting on it,” he said.
Brent and Andrea Morgan
Right at Home Queen Creek, Gilbert, Arizona
Brent and Andrea Morgan describe their culture as caring, professional, reliable, and honest. From the beginning, they set high expectations of their caregivers and created a supportive work environment to enhance those qualities. The couple said they felt welcomed and supported by Right at Home corporate team members, who have guided us through their first year of business. They also credit their neighboring franchisees for showing them the ropes.
“We are deeply honored and incredibly humbled to receive the Allen Hager RightSpirit Award. This award, named after such an inspirational leader, is a testament to Right at Home‘s remarkable spirit and culture, and we are proud to replicate that,” Brent said. “Improving the lives of those we serve is not just a statement. It is the heartbeat of everything we do. We try to instill in each caregiver that this work is more than just a job—it’s a calling.
